5th Grade Wave-a-thon and Week 7 Activities

We have some exciting news to share with our community. We would like to invite our community to join us in a Fifth Grade “Clap Out” car parade to honor the promotion of the Gibson 2020 fifth grade students.  On Thursday, May 21st at 6:30 pm, our fifth grade families will meet in the school parking lot to participate in a drive by celebration.  We would like our community members to decorate cars and park along Silver Springs to “Clap Out” of Class of 2020.  Please remember all Social Distancing Practices are in effect and must be followed.  Families are asked to stay within “car boundaries” as we celebrate our students.

Route map is available HERE. Wear your Gibson Gear to celebrate our Fifth Grade Classes.

We hope to hear from the District soon in regard to entering Phase 1 of School Closures.  We will inform you of dates and times for Student Pick Up of Materials as soon as information is released to schools.  Please start looking around your house for Gibson Library and World Series books, as they should be returned at the end of the year.  Chromebooks that have been deployed may be kept through the summer and returned at the start of the new school year.  However, if you are moving out of zone, please bring the Chromebook back during your assigned Student Pick Up of Materials.

The MOST IMPORTANT academic activity you can do is nightly reading.  Please make sure your child reads everyday for a minimum of 30 minutes.  Students should continue reading throughout the summer.  Khan academy activities will be available as well during the summer months.  We have the following links to our Specialists activities this week.

LIbrary:  Here are the library lessons for next week;

Here is the link for voting for the Nevada Young Readers Award. The last day for voting is May 15th.

Music:  Below is the link to music activities for Week 7!

PE:  Not only do we have a wonderful week of activities, Coach planned a Friday Family Field Day!!

Mrs. Goodman has a great lesson on bravery this week here is the link, but it is also available on our Gibson website;

We have also attached this week’s Distance Learning Packets.  These packets will be available on the CCSD website all summer click available HERE.  In addition, we will have hard copies for those without access to a printer in the front of the school this Tuesday afternoon.

Families who have completed the Infinite Campus online registration last week may complete the teacher request form located on our school website.  We have also included short introductory bios on our teachers so you can get to know them.  Please take some time to review these with your children as they may assist in selecting a good match. Many of our teachers will be "looping up" to the next grade level.  Research has shown this to be a very effective option for families.  Teachers have already built strong relationships with students and families, they know students strengths and these factors help to accelerate learning.  Please consider these factors when making your request.

Educationally yours,

The Gibson Team
