Gibson Week of October 12th - 16th

Next week we will be having our Parent/Student/Teacher Academic Planning Conferences on Wednesday, October 14th.  Elementary students will not have classes on this day, as our teachers will be meeting with families during the day.

In an effort to provide proper nutrition to our students every day, Clark County School District (CCSD) Food Distribution sites are making additional meals available to students on Fridays. Beginning October 9, 2020, families will be provided with three breakfasts and three lunches per child to ensure they have meals for the weekend. CCSD offers free school meals to all children 2 - 18 years of age. Students may pick up meals at any food site. A student’s parent/guardian may also pick up meals for students without the child present during the meal pickup.

This week, one of our classroom magazines was “Explore the Science of Happiness”.  During this pandemic, social distancing can often feel overwhelming feelings of isolation.  Five exercises that were mentioned in this article were;

1. Practicing Deep Belly Breathing:

Breathe in through your nose. Exhale through your mouth. Focus on your breathing.

2. Do something Kind for Others:

Helping other people will make you feel good. That’s because you are making a change in the world. Plus it will help you gain confidence.

3. Talk with a Friend:

Being with people we love makes us feel safe. You might talk with an old friend. You could also make a new one.

4. Express Gratitude:

What are you thankful for? Make a list. Who are the special people in your life? Let them know how special they are. This will make them feel good too.

5. Exercise, Eat Well, and Get Good Sleep:

Taking care of your body is important for feeling good. It is good for your mental health.

We encourage you to take on a Family Challenge and try one of these practices each day!

Have you entered the PTO October STEM Challenge?

Get your launching skills ready because we will be making Candy Corn Catapults!!

Need supplies? No problem! We have a wagon in front of the school with individual baggies chocked full of the supplies you will need to make one catapult!   We have 21 kits still waiting for homes. The project will kick off our weekly fun in October, and we couldn't be more excited! See the PTO Facebook page for more information.

Next week PTO is also encouraging families to participate in an At Home Halloween craft day.  Please see the attached flyer.
