Last Day of School

Gibson Families,

Today would be our last day of school for the 2019-20 school year.  It has been strange to be at school without our students this week.  We miss their smiling faces.  Our teachers have worked diligently to collect students’ personal items from the classroom -  including the ducks for students who met their reading goals :)!   As soon as we receive information from the State and the District about returning personal items, we will be in communication with you.

While cleaning out desks, many Library and World Series books were returned and checked into the library system.  Please continue to look around the house for any of our Gibson books and bring them to our student materials pick up day.

We wanted to remind you that we have our Fifth Grade Wave-a-thon planned for Thursday, May 21st at 6:30 pm.  Please join us in celebrating our promoting students.  On Thursday, May 21st at 6:30 pm, our fifth grade families will meet in the school parking lot to participate in a drive by celebration.  We would like our community members to decorate cars and park along Silver Springs to “Clap Out” of Class of 2020.  Please remember all Social Distancing Practices are in effect and must be followed.  Families are asked to stay within “car boundaries” as we celebrate our students.  An invitation flyer is attached, as well as a route map available if you click HERE. Wear your Gibson Gear to celebrate our Fifth Grade Classes.  In addition our Fifth Grade Teaching Team has created a Virtual Promotion Celebration.  It can be found on our Gibson website and direct links for Youtube and Eduvision

As you get ready to celebrate the summer, we are excited to announce that the State of Nevada is unveiling READ Nevada Summer Reading with myOn and Local Libraries.  READ Nevada is a partnership between NDE, Renaissance, Nevada State Library and Archives, and local libraries to help students keep reading all summer long. READ Nevada with myON by Renaissance provides a personalized digital library containing thousands of engaging interactive books and daily age-appropriate news articles for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.

Gibson students will need to log on via CLEVER to complete an interest inventory, and an initial placement assessment before the end of the day on Thursday. If you are not familiar with myON, you can find a brief tutorial about their reading options here and about their news options here.

Additionally, Nevada’s public library system is increasing hot spots and internet connectivity so students can access online resources. MyON resources can be downloaded while students are online and enjoyed even when not actively on the internet. Some local libraries are also providing curbside pickup of books and online programs to keep students engaged and reading throughout the summer.

Happy Reading,

The Gibson Team
